Mahoning & Trumbull: Should They Stay Split?

The fight over congressional maps just got personal for the Valley. Local leaders are pushing hard to keep Mahoning and Trumbull Counties in separate districts, arguing that lumping them together would water down each county’s influence. At the heart of it, this isn’t just about politics, it’s about identity. Trumbull has its own priorities, Mahoning has its own voice, and together they risk being lost in the shuffle. With the state revisiting its maps, our community is watching closely. The outcome could shape who represents us in Washington and how strongly our hometown issues are heard.

How often should you wash your car?

With this beautiful stretch of weather ahead, it's the perfect time to wash your car, but how often should you do it? According to AAA, every two weeks is ideal, as vehicles are constantly exposed to environmental factors like bird poop, tree sap, and insects, which can damage the paint job and lower your car's resale value. Additionally, road salt in winter can become corrosive if not removed, potentially causing issues with the brakes or steering mechanism, so experts recommend opting for a professional car wash rather than hand-washing to ensure the undercarriage gets a thorough rinse.

Poland Grocery Delivery Lawsuit Sees Filing of $75,000 Counterclaim

In a July 2023 grocery delivery dispute at the Poland Township home of Mahoning County Deputy Clerk Jennifer Ciccone, she and husband Daniel Superak sued driver Timothy Lucas and Giant Eagle for $75,000, claiming Ciccone was injured by Lucas's vehicle. Lucas countered with a $75,000 claim against the couple, alleging Ciccone raged over ID verification for alcohol, insulted him, threatened arrest via her cop husband after a trespassing accusation, and faked injury by banging her hand on his car while yelling she'd been hit; he also claims Superak lied to 911, with no other witnesses present. Lucas was arrested, indicted for vehicular assault and fleeing, but entered diversion without a guilty plea. Giant Eagle denies liability, stating Lucas worked for Point Pick-Up, not them, and seeks dismissal due to Ciccone's greater negligence. Lucas invokes comparative negligence, self-defense, slander, and defamation.

Business Brief

Kabob House Serves Up Some of Boardman’s Best Bites

When we asked Steel Valley Scoop readers which restaurant they wanted us to check out next, the Kabob House in Boardman won by popular demand and for good reason. This spot is all about bold, fresh flavors that hit the table with care and consistency. The kabobs are smoky, tender, and packed with spice, and the sides tie everything together in a way that feels both authentic and comforting. When you try this place out I HIGHLY recommend getting the feta cigars! This is my personal favorite and its a must order every time you go. Every dish feels like it was made with pride, and it’s easy to see why this place has developed such a loyal following.

We’ll be posting a video of our experience soon, but trust us when we say the food alone is worth the trip. Generous portions, unbeatable prices, and the kind of flavors you’ll crave long after you leave make the Kabob House one of Boardman’s true standouts. If you haven’t tried it yet, consider this your sign to go hungry and leave full.

StoneFruit Coffee

Stonefruit Coffee in Boardman, is a gem! The cozy atmosphere with ample seating makes it perfect for relaxing or working. Their freshly roasted coffee is top-notch—smooth, flavorful lattes that hit the spot every time. Friendly staff and delicious pastries seal the deal. Highly recommend for any coffee lover!

Charity Spotlight

Rocket the Tripod Pup Ready for His Forever Home

Rocket may only be 2 years old, but this resilient pup has already lived through more than most. Rescued from abuse and neglect, his broken femur left him unable to use one of his back legs. Thanks to the incredible veterinary team at Animal Charity of Ohio, Rocket underwent surgery to have his leg amputated, and now he’s thriving like never before. This sweet boy hasn’t let three legs slow him down one bit. In fact, he’s playful, silly, and full of the kind of joy that makes everyone around him smile.

Today, Rocket is looking for the one thing he’s been missing all along: a loving forever home. He knows his commands, soaks up every ounce of attention, and is happiest when he’s running, playing, and showing off his goofy personality. Rocket has the biggest heart and is finally ready to give it to someone who will love him the way he’s always deserved. If you’ve been thinking about adoption, this brave tripod pup is proof that second chances create the best companions.
