YLive Doubles the Fun with John Mayer and Tim McGraw Headlining Two-Night Festival

YLive, Youngstown’s biggest outdoor concert event, is doubling down for 2025 with a two-night music festival at Wean Park—and the headliners are huge. John Mayer will take the stage on Friday, September 26, followed by country superstar Tim McGraw on Saturday, September 27. This marks the first time YLive has expanded beyond a single night, turning the annual show into a full weekend celebration in the heart of downtown. With two music legends and thousands of fans expected to pack the park, YLive 2025 is shaping up to be Youngstown’s can’t-miss music event of the year.

At 82, Liberty Navy Veteran Still Honors 'Gold Star' Childhood

Carl New-Hensley, a Vietnam War Navy veteran who served 4.5 years as a boiler technician, proudly identifies as a Gold Star child, having lost his father, Pvt. Kenneth E. New, in combat during World War II when he was just two years old. Now 82, New-Hensley advocates for the children of fallen service members, emphasizing their often-overlooked sacrifices through his involvement with America’s Gold Star Families and the establishment of a Gold Star Families Memorial Monument in Mentor. Raised without his father in Nevada, Missouri, he faced challenges, dropping out of school and getting into trouble before his uncle’s guidance helped him earn a high school diploma at 21. His Navy training led to a successful civilian career as a top boiler engineer, including 28 years at General Motors. New-Hensley honors his father’s ultimate sacrifice by displaying military flags and sharing his story, believing that while he gave some, his father gave all.

Business Brief

Eagle Grill and Tavern is the Spot to Be in Hubbard

If you’re looking for a great place to eat and unwind in Hubbard, Eagle Grill and Tavern should be at the top of your list. The food is consistently excellent, and the weekend live music adds the perfect touch to a fun night out. From acoustic jams to full bands, there’s always something entertaining going on. It’s the kind of place where you can grab a drink, enjoy a great meal, and catch up with friends.

One bite of their chipotle bacon ranch burger and you’ll understand why it’s a customer favorite. It’s loaded with flavor and cooked to perfection every time. Since Bill took over the restaurant a few years ago, he’s put his heart into making Eagle Grill a welcoming place. He’s often seen chatting with customers, making sure they’re happy, and getting to know the regulars by name. It’s that personal touch, along with the delicious food and good vibes, that makes Eagle Grill and Tavern such a standout in the area.

Cousins Main Lobster Food Truck

I recently tried Cousins Maine Lobster, and it was amazing. If you ever see this food truck around, you have to give it a shot. Their lobster rolls are absolutely phenomenal—packed with fresh, juicy lobster meat that tastes like it was just pulled from the ocean. The folks running the truck were super friendly, quick with service, and clearly passionate about what they do. Prices felt fair for the quality, and the whole vibe was fun and laid-back. If you’re a seafood lover, this food truck is a must-try. Can’t wait to chase them down again!

Charity Spotlight

Kirby’s Ready for His Forever Home—and You Can Help More Pets Like Him This Weekend

Kirby, a 4.5-year-old gentle giant, has spent over 40 months at Animal Charity Humane Society waiting for his second chance. At 95 pounds, this lovable boy is full of heart and adventure. He’s mastered commands like “sit,” is great at trading toys, and while he’s still brushing up on his leash manners, his progress has been amazing. Kirby does best with older, respectful kids and is dog-testable—preferring calmer, more submissive females. He’s sweet, smart, and absolutely ready for a forever home where someone will finally put in the love and effort he’s been giving for years.

If you’re not ready to adopt but still want to support dogs like Kirby, swing by Animal Charity’s first-ever Yard Sale fundraiser on Saturday, July 12 from 9 AM to 3 PM at 8469 Southern Blvd. in Boardman. You’ll find secondhand treasures while helping raise vital funds for shelter pets’ medical care, food, and comfort. Donations are no longer being accepted (they’re overflowing with community support), but your shopping can make a big difference. Come browse, meet some amazing animals, and maybe even leave with a new best friend.
