Youngstown’s First Vet Fest Blends Celebration with Support for Local Heroes

This past weekend, the Youngstown VA Clinic threw one of the most meaningful events we’ve seen in a while—its very first Vet Fest—and it was all heart. On June 7, local veterans and their families were treated to live music, free food, face painting, and a whole lot of hometown love. But what really made it special wasn’t just the fun—it was the real help being offered. From on-site healthcare enrollment to benefits assistance, this event made sure our heroes walked away with more than a hot dog and a handshake. For a city that takes pride in its people, especially those who’ve served, Vet Fest felt like the start of something truly powerful. Let’s hope this becomes a staple in the Valley for years to come.

STEM Takes Center Stage at MCCTC Summer Camp

The Mahoning County Career & Technical Center kicked off its summer STEM camps on June 9, and it’s already giving local students a serious edge. From robotics and engineering to culinary arts and digital design, these camps are hands-on, fast-paced, and full of real-world skills. It’s great to see a program right here in the Valley that doesn’t just keep kids busy—it gives them a real shot at discovering what they’re good at. For a region built on hard work and innovation, this is exactly the kind of investment that keeps our future bright.

Section of Route 46 Dedicated to Honoring Deceased Dispatcher

A stretch of State Route 46 in Canfield now bears signs honoring Anthony “TJ” D’Apolito, a dedicated Ohio State Highway Patrol dispatcher who died in March 2021 after a medical emergency while working. The Canfield Post held a ceremony on Monday, attended by troopers, dispatchers, and Patrol Superintendent Charles Jones, to dedicate this portion of the road to D’Apolito, who served 16 years with the Patrol at the Warren, Canfield, and Lisbon posts. Lt. Ben Dennison noted that the memorial sign, placed near the Canfield Post at the Route 446 intersection, is a fitting tribute to D’Apolito’s commitment and sacrifice.
