Vallourec Star Expansion Brings New Jobs to Youngstown
Vallourec Star is giving Youngstown something to celebrate with a major expansion that’s expected to bring 40 new full-time jobs and more than $2.3 million in new annual payroll to the city. The company, which produces steel tubing for the energy industry, received a seven-year job creation tax credit to support the project at its Brier Hill facility. This investment is a big win for the Mahoning Valley, helping to strengthen the region’s manufacturing roots while creating more opportunities for local workers. It’s another sign that Youngstown’s industrial spirit is alive and thriving.
Fire Damages Canfield Auto Spa and Summit Drive-Thru
Fire crews rushed to the scene early Monday morning after flames broke out at the Canfield Auto Spa and Summit Drive-Thru on Boardman-Canfield Road. The fire started in the attic before spreading through parts of the building, leaving behind heavy damage to both the office area and the car wash section. Thankfully, no one was injured, and the fire was quickly contained before reaching the coolers or spreading further. The State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause, and while the building took a hit, locals are already expressing hope that this longtime Canfield stop will reopen its doors soon.
$9 Million Boost for School Safety Across Ohio
Ohio’s Attorney General recently announced $9 million in new school safety grants to help districts across the state improve campus security and emergency preparedness. Several Mahoning Valley schools are expected to benefit from the funding, which will go toward updated security cameras, better communication systems, and staff safety training. The investment comes as part of an ongoing effort to make schools safer for students, teachers, and families while supporting local districts in creating secure learning environments that allow kids to focus on what truly matters: their education.

Fall Fun and Sweet Surprises at White House Fruit Farm
If you’re looking for the perfect fall getaway close to home, White House Fruit Farm in Canfield never disappoints. Their annual Fall Harvest Festival has become a Valley tradition, drawing families for a full lineup of autumn fun. This year, my wife and I brought her parents along for the day to pick pumpkins and enjoy the beautiful orchard scenery, complete with a horse and buggy ride through the apple trees. We even stopped by the bird room, where friendly parakeets perched on our shoulders as we fed them, creating one of those simple but magical experiences that make White House special.
The biggest surprise came in the newly updated cold storage room, which now serves up sandwiches, snacks, and desserts that you won’t find anywhere else. I tried a pulled pork sandwich that was delicious, but the real showstopper was their new blueberry sundae. It comes in a big cup layered with vanilla ice cream, blueberry sauce, and chunks of their famous blueberry doughnut, topped with half of a doughnut on top. It’s easily one of the best desserts I’ve had all year and something I’ll be going back for again. If you stop by White House Fruit Farm this season, don’t leave without trying it.
