Steel Valley Spotlight

Westside Bowl Brings Back “Pay It Forward Pizza” to Feed the Valley
Westside Bowl is proving once again that kindness is baked right into its crust. The beloved Youngstown spot is reviving its “Pay It Forward Pizza” program, offering free pizzas to anyone struggling with a paycheck or SNAP benefits during the government shutdown. The program, which fed thousands during the pandemic, returns with the owners personally funding the first 100 pies to kick things off. From there, every $10 donation covers another pizza for someone in need. It’s more than just good food, it’s the Valley’s spirit of community and compassion, one slice at a time.
Youngstown Kicks Off Holiday Spirit with Artificial Tree Donation Drive
Downtown Youngstown is getting into the holiday spirit with an Artificial Tree Donation Drive hosted at The Octave, located at 34 N. Phelps Street. If you have a gently used or new artificial tree you’d like to donate, drop it off on Wednesday, December 4, between 10 a.m. and noon. The trees will be displayed the next evening during Youngstown’s Light Up Night and Holiday Parade, then gifted to approved families on December 6 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. To RSVP to donate or receive a tree, email [email protected]. It’s an easy way to share the holiday magic and make sure every home in the Valley has a tree to gather around this Christmas.
Sheetz Coming Soon to Cornersburg
Big changes are brewing in Youngstown’s Cornersburg neighborhood as Sheetz prepares to move into the former Rite Aid building on Canfield Road. Known for its made-to-order food, fresh coffee, and late-night convenience, Sheetz will bring new life to the long-vacant corner and offer locals another go-to stop for snacks, fuel, and quick meals. City officials say zoning discussions are already underway, and while no opening date has been announced yet, the buzz around town shows residents are ready to welcome the popular chain to the west side.
Business Brief

Past Times Pinball Brings Retro Fun to Girard
If you’ve been craving a dose of nostalgia, Past Times Pinball and Video Arcade in Girard is the place to find it. I finally stopped in this past Saturday after hearing about it for months, and I couldn’t believe how packed it was. It’s refreshing to see a local entertainment spot thriving here in the Valley. The place is lined wall to wall with hundreds of pinball machines and classic arcade games from every decade, and for a flat fee of $20 for adults and $10 for kids, everything is set to FreePlay. Between the flashing lights, the sounds of pinballs clinking, and the smell of fresh food from the kitchen, it feels like stepping back in time in the best way possible.
We spent a few hours there laughing, competing, and reliving a little bit of childhood magic. My mom even mentioned how it reminded her of being in an arcade back in the day. The atmosphere was fun, relaxed, and full of good energy, the kind of place where everyone seems to leave smiling. They even offer memberships for serious pinball players, which I’m honestly considering for the winter. If you haven’t been yet, make the trip to Girard. Past Times is open Wednesday through Sunday, and it’s an experience every local should check out at least once.
