Penguin City Night Market Returns with Music, Food, and Downtown Vibes

Downtown Youngstown lit up with energy as the Penguin City Night Market kicked off its 2025 season on June 19, transforming the brewery’s lot into a vibrant hub of music, food, and community spirit. Held every third Thursday through the summer, this open-air celebration brings together local vendors, food trucks, and nonprofits, offering everything from handmade goods to tasty street eats. Live bands set the tone, and the crowd favorite karaoke session kept the good vibes rolling late into the evening. If you missed opening night, don’t worry—this is just the beginning of a monthly tradition that captures the heart of Youngstown.

Former Nightclub from the 90s’ Set for Redevelopment

The Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation (YNDC) bought the old Park Inn building on Glenwood Avenue, a 100-year-old landmark once home to a popular restaurant and nightclub known for Mexican food and live music, for $225,000. Covered in murals, the three-story structure, closed since 1994, needs major renovations to restore its mixed-use potential, with housing upstairs and commercial space below. YNDC aims to revitalize the Glenwood Corridor but has no set timeline or specific plans yet, as the interior requires significant investment despite recent exterior upgrades like lighting and a planned new roof.

HVAC Problems to Steer Clear of During a Heatwave

As temperatures soar, HVAC repair calls are spiking due to air conditioners struggling to keep homes cool. Regular maintenance, like checking and replacing dirty filters, can prevent costly breakdowns and ensure proper airflow, which is crucial for cooling and reducing humidity. Neglecting upkeep can worsen issues, especially for those with medical conditions relying on functional AC units. With heatwaves showing no sign of easing, it’s wise to address problems early, as waiting could strain systems further, especially older units nearing their 12- to 15-year lifespan.

Business Brief

Eddie’s Grill: An Ohio Summer Tradition Since 1950

Eddie’s Grill at Geneva-on-the-Lake isn’t just a burger joint—it’s a time capsule. Founded in 1950, this legendary spot has been serving up classic American eats for generations, and for many Ohio families, including mine, it’s a summer tradition you don’t skip. My grandmother still talks about going there in the ‘50s, back when Geneva-on-the-Lake was in its heyday, and the grill was already making a name for itself with hot, crispy fries and juicy burgers done right.

For as long as I can remember, we’ve never missed a summer trip up to Eddie’s. The smell of the grill, the sound of oldies music playing, and the retro red-and-white building bring back memories the second you step onto the strip. Their burgers, fries, and footlong hot dogs hit the spot every time, and the root beer floats are a must. Eddie’s Grill isn’t just a place to eat—it’s a piece of Ohio summer that keeps bringing people back, year after year.

Mi Ranchitos: Hubbard’s Must-Visit Mexican Spot

I recently dined at Mi Ranchitos in Hubbard, and realized we never covered it before! From the moment you walk in, the friendly staff makes you feel right at home. The menu is packed with delicious Mexican dishes. The margaritas, both frozen and on the rocks, are a perfect complement to the meal. The service is always fast, attentive, and personal. It’s a Hubbard staple, so make sure you swing by and let us know what you think.

Sweet Wiggles and Kisses: Meet Dusty

Dusty is a three-year-old sweetheart with a heart full of love and a personality that’s impossible not to adore. Rescued alongside her mom, Darcy, after being found running loose, Dusty was never picked up by her former owners—but that hasn’t stopped her from spreading love and joy to everyone she meets. Though she came from the same home as Darcy, the two didn’t always get along, so Dusty would thrive best as the only dog in her new home.

She’s the definition of a lovable goofball—always snorting, wagging, and wiggling her way into your heart. Dusty loves giving kisses, learning how to play, and snuggling up close when it’s time to relax. With her affectionate nature and adorable quirks, she’s ready to be someone’s best friend for life. If you’ve been looking for a companion who’s as sweet as she is silly, Dusty might just be the perfect match.
